Ed was Roughin" it!

A friend of mine, Ed was heading from out west to visit.  He had a friend in Winnipeg who insisted he stay with him for a few days , he needed some help from Ed. Ed had been telling me about the terrible places he stayed in British Columbia, well, he hit gold in Winnipeg.  He arrived at an old house in need of repair. The inside must be in better condition, right? WRONG!  The owner had built a military sized bunk that was too high, his head was touching the ceiling.  The box spring on top had no springs, just a carton. Inside he had a fold out sponge mattress.  It was so short that his feet hung off the edge. It was also too narrow that his shoulder hung over the sides. He had a blanket to throw down to cover the mattress and then a blanket to cover him.   It was still winter and very cold. There was no heat in the house except for a couple small heaters that didn't heat up much. There was every piece of garbage all over the floor, mostly paper t...

Gabby's Lesson to all

Image
The story began last weekend when Gabby’s younger sister, won a plush cat stuffie at a kids fishing tournament. The prize was the biggest catch of the day, and Adri was beaming with pride as she showed off her new fluffy friend to everyone. Gabby couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy, but she pushed it aside and joined in on the excitement, knowing how happy her sister was. So what do i do? I found an identical cat (so I thought) on Amazon and had it shipped to the house of course! When the stuffie arrived, I tore the box open to surprise Gabby. To my disappointment, the cat was lumpy, had less stuffing, and, of course, had two holes already! I passed over the toy, which, in my opinion, was not worth keeping, and yet even after showing her its flaws, she had the biggest smile. I went into mom mode again and found out which store Adri’s cat came from and it was even the same price as the one off Amazon! When I told Gabby the plans to go to the mall to find a “better” toy, she was ...

Basement from Hell

2020 has taken on a new meaning for me.  I can handle all the strange things that are happening but when they start getting personal, it really starts to piss me off!   I was sitting on my bed one night in July. A storm rolled in, for the third time that day. The earlier ones brought in some amazing clouds that looked like it was the end of the world, or the aliens were about to take over.  The late evening storm was the strangest. You could see the clouds through the night sky, but the  thunder was louder than ever before. It shock everything. My son was about to make a night time snack when he announced, "Holy shit, the oven is on fire."  The oven elements blew to smithereens as the fire blazed.  As the fire was extinguished the wall behind me shook with a loud bang.  What the hell was that?  Going outside, flashlight in hand, inspecting the side of the house, a hole appeared.  maybe 8' long by 2' wide and deep.  The earth c...

My Cancer Journey - WOMEN BEING HEARD

Image
When I was diagnosed with cancer October 2013, I was in the ER bleeding to death. My family was told I was dying and would die within a couple hours. A physicist, came up with a plan to give me 2 high dose radiation treatments to burn the area I was bleeding from. I had cancer in the lining of the uterus that metastasized to the cervix, vagina, lymph nodes and areas around. Plus I had 2-71/2 pound ovaries. I looked like  was 9 months pregnant with twins. My regular doctor told me I was just too fat and lazy and never checked anything. For a year, my stomach just grew bigger. I bled on and off like a butchered pig. It  took me almost dying before someone would listen. I woke up in the morning to pee, blood was pouring out like I turned on a faucet. Clots filled the toilet. I headed to the hospital. My ER doctor took one look and called in many specialists and gave me 6 units of blood. I was surrounded in 10 minutes and immediately had CT scans, MRI, Ultrasound, internal s...

Get in my Pants!

Image
First question was, "Do you soil the bed at night?" "No, do you?" was my reply. This is the first time in many years I have had a young, handsome man try to get in my pants.  He's a nurse but what difference does that make?  I'm old, any mention of anything like that would get me smiling. He needed to check something but so what. Fact is, he ended up getting in my pants, not once, but twice. He wanted to see my coccyx and my butt cheeks. He had me bend over the bed, baring my rump checking them out.  He so gently greased them up. It felt good. He then asks me if I want to get into the peek-a-boo hospital gown and get ready for bed. What the hell, I give him a butt and now he wants the whole body? To top it off, he would have helped me change. I'm pretty sure he wanted to check out what a real woman looks like with all the wrinkles. rolls and fat! Later, he comes in with a scale. Men are NEVER supposed to ask a woman's weight. Maybe he was planning o...

Can You Baste My Turkey?

Image
A few days in the hospital is good for finding some humour in situations you can't control. This time around, my bum was the butt of all jokes. My God, the first picture I saw was a dried out pig that had been roasting too long on a spit.  Wrinkled skin hanging off my backside with fluid filled blisters popping all over. Suddenly the peeling would start, strips of skin coming off in sheets that would impress Hannibal. Being told to leave it alone made it even itchier. I swear, going to poop there were blisters that consumed the entire poop only to pop when wiping. My wonderful nurses Kim and Lisa would check my my arse for dry cracks, wounds and whatever else could be hiding back there. I would bend over mooning them so they could have a good look. So gently, they would butter up my arse, no fear of the hemorrhoid that kept watch and would wink at them plotting to take a shot and make way for a fart or worse. They would have nice padded dressings to cover the problem areas as...

You Wanted the BAG!

Image
One afternoon while I was at work I had to call my Mom to ask her to go to the pharmacy and pick me up some cough medicine. The store was right beside her so she agreed and I would go to her place after work. The pharmacist was a miserable man and insisted she get a certain type because I was a bigger girl and needed a stronger kind.  I went to her place to pick up the medicine and noticed it was the same brand I wanted but, it had an ingredient I was allergic to and would have to exchange it. I took the bottle and receipt and went to the same pharmacist she bought it from. I explained my situation about not being able to use one of the ingredients.  I gave him the receipt, he knew who my Mom was so there was no question it was bought from there. He saw the package was not tampered with, the receipt was from there and he refused because I didn't have the bag.  I was not in a good mood by then, grabbed my stuff and went to my Mom's to see if she had the bag. She did ...

Mom's Haunted House

Image
Mom's Haunted House Back in the 1950's my Mom, Wilma decided to stop working as a cookee in the bush camps to raise her children. She moved to town, rented a house and decided to start taking in people for room and board. She knew two young policemen who were wanting to rent two of the bedrooms. Another woman took the third room. There were little problems with room 1 the door would open, even when locked. Windows would slam shut, smells of aftershave  would waft through the air. An occasional cool breeze would pass by without a window being open. One policeman, John, took that room as his own. The second week he started feeling like someone was watching him. He was blaming his cop friend that he did something to the room to prank him. He denied doing anything. A couple of night later the cop was startled by a noise. He opened his eyes and standing at the foot of the bed was a man dressed in a black suit. John, yelled for the man to get out. He disappeared. John thought he w...

The Mad Bull

Image
Going to spend a few days in a trailer at my Aunt and Uncles farm was something  I loved as a teen. I'd take one of my friends and have a great time. Usually we did something to cause problems. One afternoon my friend Judy and I noticed the fence to the cow pasture was broken. We didn't want t he cows getting out and  decided to try and fix the fence. We could later brag to my Aunt and Uncle how we saved the cows and fixed the fence. No matter how we tried, we couldn't get the fence up and had to come up with another idea. I had a brilliant thought, we would coax the cows and bull into the barn and tie them up.  We got them all into their stalls, but there was a problem. The bull wasn't happy.  He was restless and causing a ruckas.  Judy went in his stall and was cornered as she tried to secure him to the post. He just kept backing out and snorting. I had another brilliant plan. I was going to go outside the barn door and close it so the bull wouldn't see ...

I'm going to join the Carnival

Image
I'm sure many of us have made our way to carnivals as teens. Wanting to try every ride with our friends. Eating all the goodies that you only get from the concessions.  Playing all the games to try and win a cheap stuffed animal that you spent way too much on, knowing you could have bought a better one at half the price.  Throwing up from eating too much and going back on the rides, toting the big teddy bear with you. Those were fun times and a great part of childhood. You could always make friends with the carnies and get a free ride or a free stuffie. I became friends with a young girl who was running the tilt-a-whirl. I was 16, she was the same. She left with the carnival because of a bad home situation.  I found out during our conversations that many of the young people at the time were only 16 to 20 years old. Most had the same stories. They said travelling with the carnival from place to place was better than being at home.  They looked after each other, ...

The Outhouse Fiasco

Image
The Outhouse Fiasco I can't believe my Aunt and Uncle let me get close to their farm after all the things that happened. They must have thought disaster followed me. My friend and I seemed to find trouble in everything we did.  One evening  after playing hard all day, we stunk, we were dirty and wanted to have a Sauna. My Aunt started it up for  us and all we had to do was wait.  Julie decided to use the outhouse before we got into the sauna.  Both of us were overweight, Julie more so, and was shorter.  Shortly after I hear screaming for the outhouse. I figured she saw a snake, no big deal.  Again, she is hollering my name. I figured I better check, not that I wanted to see a snake or smell the outhouse, but I did go over. I open the door, there is no Julie.  Where the ...

Maid of Honor.... Never Again

Image
You'd think being a Maid of Honor for a friend would be great, not in my case. I was 23 years old when asked. The bride and groom were older, she was in her 30's and Bob was maybe 50. Not sure, but he was quite a bit older than Kathy. Plans were made, it was a pot luck reception and I made the wedding cake since I loved cake decorating.  Everything seemed to fall into place. The morning of the wedding we went to get our hair done in up dos. We got dressed and were picked up to go to the church. Waiting for guests to be seated and the ceremony to begin, I was informed we would be going to the Marina for photos after. The ceremony went well, I noticed the groom didn't have his teeth, only his two fangs were showing.  It made for some interesting photos. The car was waiting for us to head to the marina. It was nice and sunny, flowers were blooming, water and boats behind us, a perfect backdrop.   After the photos we head back to the parking lot to find out Bob sen...

Out of Toilet Paper

Image
Out of Toilet Paper As I sat on the toilet taking a dump, brushing my teeth and reading  tweets, I realized some moron didn't refill the toilet paper. (That would be me).  Some idiot took all the laundry downstairs and didn't replace the towels. (That would be me again). I suspect that the males in this house think they are replaced by little fairies.  I tried to message my Son who was in the garage with his Dad AND the toilet paper. No reply! What the hell am I going to do, take off my shirt to wipe my arse? After checking the cupboard in front of me for my hidden emergency roll and find nothing (I forgot I used that last week and didn't replace it) I sat there for 10 minutes praying someone will come inside. No such luck.   Only option was to take a shower and spray my butt with the nozzle. Thank God it's detachable. Soon as I get in, I hear a knock on the door. My son, " mom, I brought you toilet paper, you forgot to fill up the holder. I had a shit earlier a...

Brother Love

Image
I wrote this story when I was in Grade 8. I got an F on it saying it was too unbelievable.  I used the same story for a grade 11 English Class and got an A.  It shows you that you should never be discouraged by others. I quit writing for awhile thinking I couldn't write, only to become a Children's writer. Brother Love Tom enjoyed the warmth of the sun's rays beaming down on his plump, rosy cheeks. He walked homeward, arms laden with party stuff for his younger brother's birthday. Today was a Saturday in mid July. The Thunder bay area was experiencing an extreme heat wave. Not unusual for this time of summer. "This day should be for fishing like every summer, Saturday was," Tom thought regretfully. 94 F. outside, the sun begging him to enjoy the day. Instead, his fate would be care taking twelve screaming, bratty kids. When he arrived home, his feet were hurting him from the hot pavement. "If I had gone fishing today, I could have fried the fish ...

How to Choose a Flight School / Takeoff, The Critical Phase

Some of you know I love flying. I want to share a video and article from a pilot I follow. My favourite plane happens to be the A320 and  # pilotamireh  flew that plane.  He has since switched to the A350 but he has a lot of interesting videos and articles on YouTube as well as HIS site  PilotAmireh.com.  Here is one that was done this week. Check him out if you are interested in Aviation. https://pilotamireh.com/2020/04/takeoff-critical-phase/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ff8R3YaTMhQ&feature=youtu.be If you are wanting to become a pilot #pilotamireh  Has a lot of information. COVID-19 VS. Flying

What was once a daily practice, had suddenly come to a screeching halt.  Transportation by air is the major form, to be able to get from one place to another. It's the fasted mode as well as one of the safest. Everyday 10,000's of people across the world, boarded a plane, sat back and let the pilots and cabin crew take them to their destination. That was before The Corona Virus of 2020. Within a few days most airplanes were grounded. Parked at the airport, unmoving. Returning flights would be the final trips until a Pandemic subsided and allowed life to go back to normal. What will happen with the air traffic industry after being crippled by COVID-19? As planes are grounded there is a huge loss for the companies financial reserves and it will be difficult to bounce back. In order to minimize the fallout, Pilots, all cabin crew, ground crew, radio controllers, and everyone needed in flight are jobless.  Some companies have covered wages, others not. It's a catastrophe l...

Four Forces of Flight x 2

There are four forces that help an airplane fly. They are lift, thrust, drag, and gravity (weight). Think of a Frisbee flying through the air. The air gives it lift and holds it up.  Throwing it with your arm, gives it thrust.  Drag from the air makes it slow down. The gravity (weight) of the Frisbee brings it back to Earth again. GRAVITY: - Gravity or weight is a pulling force that draws the plane towards the earths center. -A planes weight constantly changes during flight, as the fuel is used. -To keep the plane balanced, the pilot is constantly adjusting the controls. -In flight the plane rotates about the center of gravity. -The center of gravity of an aircraft is the point where the aircraft would balance. LIFT: -Lift is generated by the motion of the plane through the air -Lift is generated by all parts of the plane but mostly by the wings. -Lift is the push that lets the plane move up. -Lift is the force that opposes the weight and holds the plane in the air....

Fear of Flying

Many people have a natural fear of flying and the weather has a lot to do with it. A little shake from the plane can make you panic, sometimes there is a lot of shaking. You need to understand why it occurs to make you less afraid. There are various conditions that cause a plane to bounce around. Turbulence and bad weather being a major cause. There is always turbulence; it is simply an irregular flow of air that unexpectedly occurs and cannot be seen. The disturbances you feel are a natural phenomena, but they feel very unnatural to passengers 36,000 feet in the air that are stuck in an airplane cabin. Turbulence is no more dangerous than driving on a bumpy dirt road. It may be uncomfortable and it could harm you if you fall while walking around the cabin but, that is the reason the pilot will turn on the fasten seat belt sign. It's for your safety. Turbulence is not a problem for the plane or the pilots. It is not a signal that there is a problem with the aircraft. It can...

COVID-19 Safeguards explained

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hgbnt_AwJMY Here is a video of the COVID-19. AN American man from Ohio describes how it is and what he had to do to stay alive. This was a write up that was send to another Hospital by or to a Doctor Negrin I hope it keeps you safe. The Chinese now understand the behaviour of the Covid 19 virus thanks to the autopsies carried out This virus is characterized by obstructing respiratory pathways with thick mucus that solidifies and blocks the airways and lungs. They have discovered that In order to administer medicine you have to open and unblock the airways so the treatment can be used to take effect. However all of this takes a number of days. The recommendations for what you can do to safeguard yourself are: #1 drink lots of hot liquids, coffee, soups, teas, warm water . In addition take a sip of warm water every 20 minutes because this keeps your mouth moist and washes any virus that enters into your mouth and washes it into your stomach w...
